A holiday match…
For a lifetime of love!
Creating new Christmas traditions is a priority for single mom Faith Harper. But the handsome widower next door, police officer Roan Donovan, is struggling to make the season merry for his two girls. Sunny Faith could brighten the holiday for Roan. And the way he protects his daughters touches her heart. Will facing their challenges together unite their families…and build a love to weather all seasons?
“Thank you,” she said, her voice more raspy than normal. With just the two of them in the muted light of the living room, the air grew taut between them.
“My pleasure.” He held out the gloves she’d loaned him. “I need to get home and make sure the girls are ready for bed.”
When she moved closer to take the gloves, their fingers tangled, sending a rush over her skin. Their breath mingled in the scant space between them. Faith grew jittery, not from the temperature, but from the hope that Roan might lower his head to brush his lips against hers. She wouldn’t stop him if he took the chance. In fact, she swayed toward him, letting him know she wanted his full attention. Wanted his embrace. Wanted to be wrapped up in his strength and warmth. He blinked, then slowly leaned down. Inches now…
John’s yell broke their haze.
“Mom, I can’t find my pj’s!”
Faith jumped.
Roan eased back, his eyes dark and fiery.
It took a few tries to get her voice to work. “Sounds like I’m needed.”
Roan nodded and walked to the door. “Good night.”
Was he going to say anything about the near kiss? Apparently not, because he opened the door and stepped onto the porch.
She followed him. “Good night,” she barely got out, her chest tight as she watched him jog down the steps, leaving her alone with a million questions racing through her head.
