“So, what’s the guy’s name?” he asked, pretending casual interest.

She frowned and glanced around. “Uh, what guy?”

“The one who calls and makes your face light up like a sunny day. Seems someone special is waiting for you back in Minnesota.”

She lowered her head. “Busted!” A smug grin came and went in a second or two. “I’ll have to reveal the mystery person.”

He should have kept his mouth shut. He had a feeling he was about to look ridiculous. “Should I prepare to be red in the face?”

She let out a hoot. “Very red.” She scrolled through her phone and then held it close to her chest. “Last chance…wanna see?”

He swallowed and nodded. “Okay, break the news.”

“Yes, this is the one.” Her face broke into a big smile when she passed him her phone. “That’s Jillian, my patient, my ten-year-old sweetheart.”

Matt groaned. He felt silly looking at the photo of a smiling girl in a Minnesota Twins’ T-shirt, pointing to the short brush of red hair coming in on her head. “Well, well, don’t I feel a fool?”

“Oh, don’t fret over it. I’m only having a little fun with you.” The broad smile appeared again but didn’t vanish in an instant this time.

“Mystery solved. Now I can see who brings out your radiant glow.” Matt cleared his throat. “I suppose that’s why I assumed it was a guy.”

Ignoring his comments about a guy, Heather filled in the details about her young patient’s leukemia treatment.

Matt nodded along. Only someone with the hardest of hearts wouldn’t be affected by this child’s story.

Thanks for stopping by–I hope you enjoy the romance. Piglets have quite the following on the tour–I’m not surprised. They aren’t quite up there with horses, though.

Ah, yes, the winner so far–my favorite, too. I hope you enjoy Heather and Matt’s romance!

I really don’t have a favorite I like them all from the cows that are right across the field from us or the chickens that scratch the gorund and make eggs

I have cows close by, too, although not across the road. I see them from a trail I walk on often. I hope you enjoy Matt and Heather’s romance.

Harses are my favorite. The kids on the cover are so cute. Thanks for sharing the excerpt.
